Football Players and Parents,
I am excited to be sending this email. The weather is starting to warm-up and preparations for the 2018 Football season are heating up as well. Our program had a great winter season, with so many athletes participating in and having success in winter sports, and a steady group of players working hard and making gains in the weight-room under the guidance of our new ETS partnership. I held individual goal setting meetings with the majority of players in our program, and it was great to have the one on one time with the players and hear about their lives and ambitions both on and off the field. (If we didn’t connect I will be reaching out individually after break).
As we head into spring sports, and the hit the home stretch of the school year, I want to get this information out to you so preparations can be made and we can have the highest participation possible in our spring and summer football offerings. As we head into spring we will start to formally develop our leadership core for the season, and the players will also start to lead themselves in morning football skills work. Summer is the most critical part of the football off-season for our program. As a team this is our only opportunity to train football skills and schemes together. Our summers effort and participation usually directly correlates with our seasons outcome. I have worked out an aggressive, but well planned summer for us that will allow us to develop our minds, bodies, and team in many ways. As usually summer is also a time that I encourage family, and fun. By getting this information to you now, I hope we can work to avoid as many conflicts as possible, and set the boys up for success.
We will be starting a new Leadership Council. This will build off what we did last year with our Leadership Breakfast Club. We will meet every other Thursday from 6:15am-7:00am starting March 22. All players are welcome, but to be a voting member of the council player will need to attend all meetings.
Open Field Captains Practice
Starting March 20th and every Tuesday morning from 6:00am to 7:00am the field will be open for Captains Practice. Players will run drills and 7on7. If weather is bad these sessions will take place in the gym.
Morning Weight Room
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday the weight room will be open from 6:00am to 7:00am for anybody in the school, but also for players that can’t make the after school session and or their spring sport is not lifting.
ETS After School Strength and Speed
ETS will once again run lifting this spring for both Spring Season Athletes and Off Season athletes. Spring sport athletes work with your coach to find your times. Off-Season Atheletes can expect a similar schedule to Winter Session. Monday, Wednesday, Friday 3:00pm-4:30pm.
Player Spring Team Meeting 3/29/18
Our spring team meeting will be Thursday March 29th at 2:10pm in LL17 Mr. Burtness’s Room. Be on time. Doors close at 2:10pm. Meeting should last 20mins. If you plan on playing, plan on being at the meeting on time. If your in a Spring Sport- You will be out in time for practice and I will let Spring Sport Coaches know ahead of time. Important that all players attend or talk to Coach Fuller ahead of time.
Mini Camp #1
Dates will be June 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th 10:00am-2:00pm.
NDSU Team Camp
This year we will be attending North Dakota State University’s Team Camp from Friday June 15th to Sunday June 17th. This is a top of the line camp that allows for the players to be coached/trained by several different colleges coaches, and also compete as a team against other top teams in the area while being coached by Irondale coaches. Players stay in NDSU Dorms and are supervised at all times. All players grades going into grades 10-12 are welcome to attend. The cost of the camp is $200 which includes transportation to the camp and all meals and lodging at the camp. Players will be given registration information at our spring meeting, and options for those with money issues will be discussed at the meeting. Money should not be a barrier to participation in the camp. As a football team this camp will use 4 of our 11 days of practice we get together, please consider this carefully while deciding if you will attend. Summer Strength and Speed
We will be working with ETS to run Summer Strength and Speed this summer. Start date is June 18th and it will run Monday-Thursday 8:00am-10:00am for incoming 9th-12th graders. Registration information will be forthcoming, at this time the postings on the Community Ed Site are being tweaked, so please hold of on registration. We are working to reduce the cost for all. Information will be shared as soon as it becomes available.
Irondale Passing League
We will be hosting Hill Murray, St. Anthony, and Fridley for passing league Monday mornings 10am-11:30am on June 18, 25 July 9, 16, 23, 30. This is for all skill players entering grades 10-12.
Osseo Passing League
We will be joining Osseo’s passing league on Monday evenings as well. Dates are June 11, 18, 25, July 9, 16, 23, 30. We will ride a bus to these games, and there is a JV Game, Followed by a Varsity Game each week. This is a competitive league where score will be kept. This is for all skill players entering grades 10-12, playing time is not guaranteed in these competetive games.
Mini Camp #2 and Team Lock-In
Dates are June 23rd, 24th, 25th, 26th from 3pm-6pm.
Team Lock In June 26th- Will be a little different this year will only go until 10pm.
